I would like to tell you my story. It is very interesting and unusual as all truthful stories. Since childhood I have been dreaming to become a fashion designer. But life circumstances always changed my dream, not exactly changed but put it off.
Then computers appeared. And I decided to become a web designer. It was just a new exciting trend in the world interaction. IT sphere developed very fast and I became a UI/UX designer. It is a mix of logical skills, ability to think, to understand human needs and creativity. Also you should love technology. Thus I became a person who believes in the world future changes and sees what trends will be in future.
I think some people feel future and see how it should look like. When I was a child I saw a movie called “Total Recall” (1990) with Arnold Schwarzenegger. In that movie it was a slim TV hanging on the wall, meanwhile my TV was a big box staying on the cupboard, it was 90th. But in 10 years I also had such a TV in my apartment. So time goes fast and everything changes. And if you know what future trends will be then you are the first who succeed.
Another movie I think our future will look like is “The fifth element” (1997): flying cars, journeys to other planets for a vacation, sleeping in special сapsules and other interesting things people will face in 20-50 years. Pay attention to the laconic and at the same time extraordinary costumes created by Jean-Paul Gaultier. I think all of us will be lucky to see this fantastic changes in the nearest time.
What I think about the future and its design trends? I think fashion is the way for each person to express his personality. Thus you show the world who you really are. Design trends are connected with people and their lifestyle. So everything depends on how people will live, what they will eat, wear and what history they will have. My predictions about future are optimistic. Future is very clever. Mind is laconic. This should be reflected in design. So I think trends for future shapes are clean, strict and neat like rectangle, square, circle, triangle. Materials are also simple and practical – leather, cotton, other natural fabrics.
This summer I took part in a fashion show in Amsterdam called EMW 3.0. The collection I showed is called Futura and the idea of it was futuristic style and my vision of how people will be dressed in future. Here you can see full collection. The concept is to represent the ideal people in future, not only how they look like but also their inner world, thoughts, behavior. I think in future world will be better, more kind, and calm, at the same time logical and deep minded. It must find its reflection in design and its future trends.
It is always interesting to explore new roads. The main message in my collection design is the way I see people in future and the way I want them to be. So my collection has combination of forms and materials, at the same time it looks very simple and laconic. So it is like the way people of future are thinking and behaving themselves – they are simple, kind, open-minded and at the same time deep inside, logical and interesting versatile personalities.
Future is very unpredictable. I think one of future fashion trends is playing with different shapes and materials. To combine what cannot be combined. I tried to show it in my collection Futura.
Designers should use all their creativity to combine simple forms and materials and at the same time to do something unique. This you can explore from the costumes design of “The Hunger Games” movie. I think they are amazing. Just the masterpiece.
There are a lot of other amazing fashion designers who had special talent to see future trends, like Alexander McQueen, David Koma, Ara Jo, Watanabe, Gareth Pugh and many other.
So there could be a lot of destinations in future trends but only good designer will know which will be the most popular. All you need just develop your senses, try to go out of your mind borders and be brave to do and show extraordinary things.
